Food Under One is Just For Fun

If someone asks me one more time when I'm going to start solids, I swear I'm going to go crazy.

Food under one is just for fun. They do not need any solids under a year as nutritionally it doesn't help them.  Lenora is almost 8 months now and I will probably start her on avocado soon, but I'm not rushing it.

So many people are giving their kids solids way too young, starting at 2-3 months old.  It turns my stomach.  Even major organizations like The World Health organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Health and Medical Research council suggest waiting until the baby is 6 months to start any types of solids. This includes baby cereal, purées, juice, etc.  Many people are under the impression that they should be giving their baby cereal at 3-4 months old. This is way too young and you are setting your child up for digestive issues and allergies.  Cereal in general should be skipped because of its dangers.  Not only does it have a huge amount of sugar in it, but it can lead to diabetes, obesity, constipation and it greatly lacks nutritional value.  You see, when rice cereal is made for babies, the most nutritious part is removed and the flour in the cereal becomes sugar. So, what you are really doing is feeding your child a spoonful of sugar with every bite.

Starting solids too early can cause many problems including allergies to food, childhood obesity, gas and constipation issues, weakened immune system and even respiratory illnesses.

If you do want to start your child on solids at 6 months, that is OK but just remember the longer you wait, the more developed their gut will be and it is not nutritionally required.  Before you start him on solids make sure they are sitting up unassisted, at least 6 months old, can grab things with thumb and pointer and has lost the tongue thrust reflex.

I would suggest looking into baby led weaning and skipping purées. Remember, your breast milk is nutritionally sufficient until your baby is a year of age.

Organic Lunch meat

Making sure your lunch meat is organic is important because it means you are eating from a healthy animal. At $10 this package for a pound, it is about double the amount that you would Pay for non organic. Some things are okay if you were to choose gmo ingredients, lunch meat is not one of them. Knowing my Turkey breast came from a turkey that was fed a vegetarian diet and was free range is extremely important. It is just as important as buying free range eggs.
A review on the plainville farms organic turkey is, the flavor is great but the slices are very thin. It's great for sandwiches of rolls.

Coleman organic chicken sausages

I've been buying these Coleman organic spinach chicken sausages now for a while. The price is decent and you get 12 in a pack! Of course, being organic they are antibiotic free with no added hormones, which is great! I love that they're chicken instead of pork which makes them healthier for you and your family.

I have been putting these in with our spaghetti and I've even put them in our soup a few time now.  There are many ways to prepare them and since they're fully cooked, you don't need to worry about undercooking them!

Organic juice, expensive but worth it

Eating for your health is extremely important. Recently, I lost a dog due to feeding her GMO food. I truly believe that it is necessary to put good wholesome organic ingredients into your body to stay healthy. GMOs will in time tear your body apart. 50 years ago they never had this much GMO's in our food. Yes, I am willing to pay $4.50 for a 32 ounce glass jar of organic grape juice if it means healthy ingredients for my body and my kids body. Anyways, this juice was delicious and tasted even better since it was in glass. Although it may be expensive, I am going to make a pact to really focus on feeding my kids and my family organic food. This brand of juice was great and I would recommend it!!

Stuffed bell peppers

Making sure you feed your family healthy food is very important. Remember, what you put into your body really defines who you are and how you will perform. Last night I made stuffed bell peppers with ground beef and they were absolutely delicious. I was a little nervous to see if my daughter would like it,  but I was happy to see that you really enjoy this meal. I'm lucky that she likes bell peppers and all the ingredients inside.

This was fairly easy to make. The first thing you have to do is cut your bell peppers in half and scoop out the insides. Next you will want to make your stuffing.  I mixed raw ground beef, tomato paste, cooked white rice, onion, the remaining of the peppers, and a little bit of vinegar together.

Next, I sprinkle the top with mozzarella cheese. Then, I put this in the oven covered with voile for one hour at 400°.

Here is a picture of my daughter enjoying her stuff Bellpepper. It isn't the best picture of her because she was complaining that her mouth hurt at the time. I think she had chapped lips.
