Making Your Own Dishwashing Tablets

I have been making my own dishwashing tablets for my dishwasher for a while now.  No more chemical smell lingering in the air and it is a super cheap formula!  I absolutely love it!

You don't need many ingredients to make this formula and you most likely already have many of them in your house.

*Salt (Optional, only if you hard water)
*Vinegar
*Baking Soda
*Borax
*Essential Lemon Oil (Optional, but it smells amazing and adds antibacterial cleaning properties to your dishwasher)
*Ice Cube Tray

Mix two cups of the baking soda with an equal two cups of borax into a bowl.  Add a quarter cup of salt and a half cup of vinegar.  The mixture will harden up a little bit and clump together.  You can now add as much lemon oil to the mix as you would like.  I usually add 5-6 drops.  Make sure the dishwashing detergent  is fully mixed together.

Press a spoonful of the mix into the ice cube.  I would recommend filling them halfway full of the tablets will be too large.  Pop them out immediately, but very gently and allow them to dry for at least 12 hours before you use them.  I have tried leaving them in the ice cube tray to dry and then popped them out, but they tend to fall apart a lot easier.  It is important to be very gentle with these tabs because they are super fragile.

After the tablets are dry, put them in the soap area in your dishwasher and wash as normal.  I also add a splash of vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher for an extra boost,  This comes to 7 cents a load!
